A blending of Victorian aesthetics with a futuristic vision, set in a Victorian operating theatre where a human is undergoing a brain surgery to improve their human brain while his wife looks on in sorrow from the side. The surgeons and a few audience members have already undergone the procedure, but the unlucky few who still retain their human heads must be masked and numbered in shame.
I was trying to echo the style and composition of Thomas Eakins 'The Agnew Clinic' and the Realism art movement of the time. The piece was influenced by recent personal experiences of loss and family health challenges, this piece explores themes of transformation, and the tension between humanity and technology, and the risks and benefits of technological progress. I recently started my journey in Art, previously working as a Computer Scientist in AI, so I am constantly thinking about how technology can impact us negatively and positively.
I created this for my Term 2 class 'Texturing and Shading 2' at Gnomon school of Visual Effects under the guidance of Tran Ma, over the course of 10 weeks. All aspects were created by me, thanks to Tran for teaching me Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer, and David Mooy for teaching me Hard Surface.
